Susan George is a Madison native who grew up the youngest of eight children. She learned patience, teamwork and negotiating skills that served her well later in life as a paralegal. Susan's father was a Rotarian at the downtown club but she hadn't thought of actually joining herself until about 4 years ago. In her first Club of 28 members, she served as president. Susan has continued on in Rotary because she likes meeting new people, being active in the community and staying connected. In retirement, she enjoys baking, biking, gardening and quilting. Susan has two children while Harry has three.
Harry's story begins with memorable summer camps from age 8-15, where he had plenty of independence as a kid, riding the train from Chicago to Michigan. While there, he learned to sail, canoe, skeet shoot, swim and craft. Equally important in Harry's life was the unique high school he attended in Colorado. It was a working ranch near Aspen. On it, he not only took classes but learned woodworking, auto mechanics, jewelry making, in addition to slaughtering cows and pigs! Harry was a Rotary Exchange student who attended the University of Oslo for a year. He is pictured wearing the sweater his host mother made for him and the decorative sleaves his host grandmother sewed.
Like Susan, Harry spent his career in law. An attorney, Harry led the team, including Susan, on a case they ultimately won that took over a decade to resolve.
What a great couple to join us at Madison South!
