A highly successful mentoring program is making a gigantic difference for high school kids who are struggling. The non-profit program known as Root 2 Rise, focuses on juniors and seniors, 95% of whom are from impoverished families, according to Denise Hanson, Executive Director. She joined Joseph Thigpen, Jr., Program Manager, in explaining how Root 2 Rise makes a difference in kids' lives.
It's all about “students empowering students” by emphasizing education and leadership, says Hanson.
Madison South Rotary has sponsored two students, which helped fund the $750 stipend the students can earn by signing a contract and living up to it. The program started in 2017 and has served 418 participants, with 100% of them graduating from high school!
