Rotary Foundation Month

November is Rotary Foundation month and a great opportunity to consider joining the movement. The Rotary Foundation transforms your gifts into projects that change lives both close to home and around the world. As the charitable arm of Rotary, they tap into a global network of Rotarians who invest their time, money, and expertise into our priorities, such as eradicating polio and promoting peace. Foundation grants empower Rotarians to approach challenges such as poverty, illiteracy, and malnutrition with sustainable solutions that leave a lasting impact.

Strong financial oversight, a stellar charity rating, and a unique funding model mean that they make the very most of your contribution. Give and become a part of Rotary‚Äôs life-changing work!

A BIG THANK YOU to all the members of Tacoma South Rotary, Harkness Furniture, and our guests!!! Our annual Indoor Golf Tourney/Auction was a success!! We raised money for Winterfest at PLU that will be used to buy winter coats and Christmas toys for very under-privileged children in our area.

Here are some pictures of our Rotarians and guests having some fun!

Is this Tacoma??

Posted by Kim McKendry on Jan 23, 2012

As those of you know that live here, the Pierce County area was hit HARD by snow and then an ice storm! Very unusual for our area. It caused much devastation across the area. My sister has a nesting pair of eagles that live on her property along the Nisqually River. The nest, which she says can weigh up to 1000#, came crashing down in the storm! Very sad! However, we also saw some beauty when the snow first fell. Sandra took this photo in her yard during the storm. I hope this is the end of snow and ice this winter!

Fireside...Cajun Style!

Posted by Kim McKendry on Dec 13, 2011

We recently had a Christmas Fireside at President Sandra's house. While Sandra and Kim were in New Orleans for the Rotary International Convention, we were able to attend the New Orleans School of Cooking. At this event, we learned how to make some famous NOLA dishes....Gumbo,  Crawfish Etouffee,  Bread Pudding and Pralines! It was amazing!! While we were there, we decided to have a Fireside and to feature Cajun cooking! Well, we pulled it off! We had a Cajun Christmas Fireside! We had Gumbo, sauteed shrimp with "the trinity" (aka onion, green pepper, celery) as well as some great appetizers and salads. We had a fun time sharing stories and exchanging "White Elephant" gifts! Here are some photo memories of that night. Thank you, Sandra, for letting us invade your house!
