Year 3 saw an increase to $7,500 raised, and in 2019, $12,000 was raised from the Turkey Trot!  Thank you to all Rotarians and members of the community who make this event such a success.

    • Ruby Peng (last year's Exchange Student) sent a box of Taiwanese food to Ashley and the club. Ruby is preparing for college, and misses Ashley’s pets.

  • Fantasy Football for The Rotary Foundation -  An incredible job by Jason Wright who spearheaded this year's Fantasy Football contest. The league raised $2,400 for the Rotary foundation. Mary Hoover and Ashley Oaksmith won their respective divisions, and Mary is overall Champion. Congratulations to Mary, and thank you for all those who participated!
Jim Barker - Classification Talk and Blue Badge
Jim Barker in his Classification Talk regaled us with stories of his childhood, as well as having us sing happy birthday to our current District 5020 Governor Mo Fritz-Roberts (who was not present).

One of Jim’s activities outside of his work at Children of the Nations (COTN) is working at the Mariners and Seahawks stadiums. If you are looking to raise the 12th Man flag at a Seahawks game, give a shout out to Jim.

Jim was presented with his Blue Badge, and said from now on “think of him as a Rotarian first who just happens to work for COTN!”  Welcome to the club, Jim, and we are grateful to have you as part of our club!
Induction of New Member Amanda Smith, and Rotary Kids of Action!
On December 19 Rotarians and family members and guests gathered at Kitsap Golf and Country Club to celebrate the season.  It was great fun with a purpose:  to induct Amanda Smith as the newest member of the Silverdale Rotary Club.  Her classification is Real Estate.  Welcome to the Silverdale Rotary Family, Amanda!

Pictured left to right: President Christie Scheffer, Membership Chair Jason Wright, Amanda Smith, Sponsor Rick Soper

It was a family affair!  A large group of our Kids of Action attended, and Steve and Whitney Boe presented them all with a Kids of Action certificate and pin.  Kids present included: Amelie and Cavanaugh Boe, Jacob Lyons, Reece Shannon, Reyce Scheffer, Sophia and Tye Strong. Marshall and Ellie Shoemaker; Aiden, Sophia, and Vivian Smith.

The Certificate reads: "In recognition of making positive choices that benefit others, of exemplifying the spirit of service above self, and being a Kids of Action role model to your Community, this certificate of excellence is awarded by the Silverdale Rotary Club."

Note from President Christie: "We had a White Elephant Exchange for adults and kids! I ran the kids one and am happy to report no tears - LOL!"

Thank you Club Service Chairs Erin Shannon and Jennifer Strong for organizing this grand affair!

David Jordan and Rich Arper - Rotarians of the Month!
At the Holiday Party on December 19, 65 Rotarians and guests helped congratulate David Jordan (on left) and Rich Arper (on right) as President Elect Steven Boe and President Christie Scheffer, respectively, named them November and December Rotarians of the Month.

David Jordan
David joined Silverdale Rotary in July 2017, and he has been such a great asset to the club. He’s always willing to help and jumps in with a positive fun attitude!

He told us he would grow the Turkey Trot - and he has!  And next year is adding a10k race. I think we will double money raised!

From the first food bagging he always took on hardest job of ferrying bags.  He comes early to meetings to help set things up and checks people in, and he also writes for the Breeze.

David embodies what it means to be a Rotarian.  From all the work he does for our club, to his work with orphans in Uganda, we are proud to honor David Jordan as our November Rotarian of the Month.

Rich Arper
Rich joined the Silverdale Rotary Club in 2004 and went on to become President in 2010-11. But his experience with Rotary began as a young lad, getting up early, helping his legendary father Bob Arper with the Duck Race barge, year after year. He learned the importance of supporting the community in his youth and his commitment to service continues to shine to this day!

And speaking of shining, year after year, Rich has recognized the importance of ‘community celebrations’ and has faithfully maintained and cared for the Silverdale Holiday Tree. He has planned work parties, changed light bulbs, consulted with arborists, and babied and brought back to life our beautiful tree. Rich cares about community and helps to make sure that each year our neighbors can come together in joy and celebration of the season.

Rich does many things for our Club throughout the year, but today we are thanking and honoring him for his wonderful work each year at the Annual Christmas Tree Lighting.

Thank you Rich for bringing so much to our Club! You are well deserving of Rotarian of the Month for December!
