Congratulations to Christie Scheffer who was presented her Paul Harris Fellow +5 on October 1.  From Christie about donating to TRF: “I joined in 2014, and soon learned about the truly life changing work the Foundation does all over the world. I felt called to commit to giving $1,000 a year to the foundation as a Paul Harris Society member. I know I am sharing in reaching into all parts of the world to change lives.”

District 5020 Governor Greg Horn – Rotary Opens Opportunities
DG Greg Horn delivered his speech with passion and humility on October 8 at our Zoom meeting.  Here are some highlights:
  • What is a District Governor?  He described himself as a common Rotarian with an uncommon passion for Rotary with a strong drive to share that passion.
  • DACdb (District and Club Database) – District 5020 is switching from Clubrunner to DACdb, based on ease of use, powerful functionality, and lower cost.  DG Greg invited us to learn more at four Zoom sessions scheduled to explain the system.  Our club can stay with Clubrunner, or not, based our investigation.
  • The Rotary Foundation – Charity Navigator has given TRF a 4-star rating for 12 years!  He encouraged us to donate at  Automatic recurring payments can be set up with Rotary Direct.  DG Greg commended our club for the fact that 75% of us are Paul Harris Fellows!  But not stopping there, he suggested that we could be the “first Club in this Rotary year” to have 100% Paul Harris Fellows.
  • DG Greg complimented our club on our "beautiful and functional" website.
  • District Governors have wish lists, too!  Here are some of DG Greg’s:
  • Thanks to Governor Greg for the visit and timely message.  With Zoom meetings more accessible, we hope to see our DG many more times this year!
New Interactive Contest - Episode 2
Each week we will post an image somewhere in the Breeze and ask you to identify it by emailing or texting our contest Judge Brian Beagle.  Two points if you are correct, and one point for an incorrect answer.  At the end of this calendar quarter Brian will tally the count of responses, and we will award a prize(s).  Email Brian Beagle at or text 360-731-9956 before the next Breeze is published.  Late responses will receive half credit because the correct answers will be posted the following week (see below).  All decisions of the Judge are final!
Notes: If you run into Spamblocker, don't bother submitting a form - we clear it frequently.  If you are a Breeze subscriber but not a Rotarian, that’s OK, too – go ahead and submit your answers.  We would love to hear from you!  Read on:
What event is this, what are they doing, and who are the two in the foreground?
Answer of the Week for October 5 photo below: The Rotarians in the photo are Rich Arper, Christie Scheffer, & Scott Slocum. They are either showing off the dictionaries they just delivered to 3rd graders, or deciding which of the children they will eat as a snack before they fly back to their castle!
Polio Event on October 17 - Countdown to History
Rotary District 5020 will mark historic progress toward a polio-free world while urging the community to help end the paralyzing disease. Rotarians of the Month - Christie Scheffer and Scott Park
On October 1, co-Presidents Elect Jennifer Strong and Erin Shannon presented awards to two of our outstanding Rotarians.
Rotarian of the Month for August – Christie Scheffer.  Immediate Past President Christie has continued her focus on the Duck Race for 2021 with negotiating the contract for the event. She is always focusing on the Community and helping organizations in need, currently accepting donations for Georgia’s House, a shelter for women and children. And, under her Leadership, our Club earned the Rotary International Presidential Citation from RI President, Mark Maloney for the 2019-20 year!
Rotarian of the Month for September – Scott Park. Scott’s dedication to the Multiple Sclerosis Foundation is a shining example of what it means to be a Rotarian. He’s consistently a positive force in every meeting, and we are so proud that he is a member of our club.
Scott thanked everyone who supported him in riding 100 miles for MS on September 28.  He raised $3,600 for the MS Foundation!
Plastics - an Environmental Scourge
We had a great presentation from Hans and Nick Schippers on October 1 about the amount of plastic that is clogging beaches, interrupting the food chain, polluting the oceans, and killing sea life.
Check out the great work they are doing through Parlay, educating our youth about the danger of plastics in our oceans.
