Our program today was Debora Lascelles (pictured on right) and husband Jake Ortega (pictured below), independent filmmakers doing a film highlighting Kitsap’s very own Coffee Oasis. The film is titled Coffee for Hope. They started video development in January of 2017, and are currently in the middle of production. The film will focus on the homeless youth and all that The Coffee Oasis offers them in our communities.
They plan to have the film completed by January 2019, and to market and distribute it in June 2019! Their distribution plan includes, but is not limited to: worldwide film festivals, online streaming like Hulu, Netflix, etc, televised (PBS, local stations), and digital downloads. This is a great way to bring to light the issue of homelessness within our youth, as well as highlight the Coffee Oasis!
Debora and Jake are currently fundraising as they film, with a budget of $150,000. Their fundraising includes grants, business sponsorship, and grassroots fundraising to name a few. If you’d like to learn more about the film, or how you can help in their fundraising efforts, visit their website at
Editor's note: Silverdale Rotary has supported The Coffee Oasis with several grants, all made possible by generous support of sponsors and the community who have purchased tickets for the annual Silverdale Rotary Duck Race.
