Silverdale Rotarians were proud to recognize Central Kitsap School District's (CKSD) 2018 Employees of the Year at our regular meeting on May 31.
We met CKSD Teacher of the Year for 2018: Karla Van Eycke. Karla has an amazing ability to gain students’ trust and respect and build their confidence to learn. And it’s working! As a reading specialist at Silverdale Elementary, Karla takes the time to listen to students and discover what drives them—then uses this knowledge to help students move forward and meet their academic goals. She NEVER gives up.

Karla is committed to professional development and has worked on numerous innovative projects to help students succeed. She is a true advocate for students and relentless when it comes to encouraging them, protecting them, and providing them with lasting memories and experiences. She is also a foster parent, and even after 31 years brings enthusiasm and energy to the room when she talks about being a teacher.
We recognized the CKSD Classified Employee of the year for 2018: Brandon Parr (unable to attend). Brandon is a custodian at Silverdale Elementary, and he knows that the little things go a long way in creating a culture that is positive and safe. Brandon pays attention to detail and anticipates the needs of staff members. Regardless of how big the challenge, he responds quickly and with a smile.

Brandon has excellent technical knowledge and loves a project. When he sees a need, Brandon takes pride in addressing it by finding a solution that is done right and that will last. Brandon enjoys serving the community and taking care of its members. He understands and supports the goals of his school—and he makes a difference every day!
