Incoming President Steven Boe presented Chuck Kraining with the Rotarian of the Year award on June 27 with the following citation (excerpts):  Chuck joined the Silverdale Rotary Club in 2011,was Club President 2015-16  and was the 2017 Duck Race chair, leading a very successful Duck Race!
Chuck found his home is in Youth Service. He has taken on a role at the Club and District level: Chair of the Youth Services Committee, Club Youth Protection Officer, District level Country Officer, Youth Exchange coordinator, starting Interact Clubs, involvement in Rotary Youth Leadership programs, being a ‘Rotary Exchange Student Host and Father’ and more!
We are honoring Chuck with Rotarian of the Year for his outstanding service this year to our Youth Exchange program and to both this year’s Exchange Student Aron Skultety and former Exchange Student Matej Kunak.
This was a year of the unexpected. Aron had a need to return home for important dental work, and if it hadn’t been handled properly would have meant he would be unable to return to the U.S. Chuck coordinated the arrangements and navigated much international red-tape to make sure Aron received the care he needed but was also able to return back to the U.S. to continue his stay. Then COVID-19 occurred, requiring much additional planning and coordination regarding Aron’s schooling, length of stay and return home.  Chuck coordinated altered travel plans and made sure Aron made it home safe and sound!
Chuck is generous and caring and a joy to have in the Club! He is always supportive of new ideas and ways of moving Rotary’s mission forward! Thank you, Chuck for your fun spirit, warm heart and generosity! You are well deserving of the honor of Rotarian of the Year!
