International Service Committee Chair Nancy Whitaker announced on February 25 that the following grants will be awarded this year:
- $1,000 to Shelterbox (see https://portal.clubrunner.ca/730/Stories/shelterbox-rotary-international-s-disaster-relief-partner)
- $1,000 to the Rotary Club of Orion in the Philippines for the impoverished Capunitan Elementary School that we (along with Bainbridge Island Rotary Club) have supported for 3 years. Recently they experienced a fire, typhoon, and then COVID-19. The funds will pay for printer paper and ink to print lesson modules for students who don’t have internet connections for online learning.
- $2,500 to Lisa Stirrett for her work in Africa. Project details forthcoming.
- $1,250 to Children of the Nations for work in the Dominican Republic where Silverdale Rotarians have traveled and supported projects. Project details forthcoming.
- $250 for a humanitarian award to fund a microloan via http://www.kiva.org. Kiva is a clearing house for microloan projects where the person/organization donating can chose the specific project that will receive the microloan.
