At the Rotary International Convention in Atlanta (June 10-14, 2017) 40,000 Rotarians from all over the world gathered to hear some some blockbuster speakers and celebrate the 100th Anniversary of The Rotary Foundation.  On June 12 we heard from Bill Gates, RI President John Germ, WHO and CDC leaders, and other world leaders address the need for another $1.5 Billion (with a B!) to finish the fight to eradicate Polio. See YouTube video  Help Us Drop to Zero.
Pledges announced on June 12 included $150 Million from Rotary (which the Rotarians now need to raise, see, another $300 Million from the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, and hundreds of millions from other sources.  Total pledged:  $1.2 Billion.  There were 40 cases of polio worldwide in 2016, and the 2017 total to date is 5.
We are “This Close,” but we can’t let up on our efforts until we “Drop to Zero” through vaccination and surveillance monitoring for three years after the last case has been identified.  End Polio Now!
