Watch DG Mo’s dynamite presentation at  starting at 8:02.
Silverdale Rotarians were honored to host District 5020 Governor (DG) Mo Fritz-Roberts and her husband Dale Roberts on November 7.  DG Mo’s dynamic presentation was an inspiration, and a call to action, for all of us.  Her topic was “Joy:”  the joy of a single mother and other women in Ethiopia who can now support their children, the joy of collaboration to make things happen, the joy of celebrating with Rotarians from the world over at Conferences and International Conventions, and the joy of enabling The Rotary Foundation to do good in the world.
“It makes me happy to talk about Rotary!” exclaimed Mo in her introduction, “because everywhere you go in the world with Rotary, you can get things done!”  She went on to describe several collaborations she has experienced through Rotary in Ethiopia and Uganda, highlighting the meaning of this year’s Rotary International theme, Rotary Connects the World:
  • Giving life saving polio vaccine drops on three National Immunization Days to help rid the world of polio
  • Seeing the results of Rotary water well projects that free up children so they can go to school and their mothers so they can earn a living.
  • Her Comox Rotary Club raising $90,000 to start a microcredit bank in collaboration with World Vision that changed countless lives.
  • Rescuing 14-16 year old former sex slave mothers with a Rotary Foundation grant that provided training and a sewing machine – total cost: $120 per girl!

Mo emphasized how easy it is to donate to The Rotary Foundation and become a sustaining member (only $10 per month buys one sewing machine (see above)!
Important dates:
  • District Training and Conference on May 15-16, 2020 in Victoria. (It’s also the Queen’s Birthday Weekend!)  Time will fly with keynote speakers and special presentations interspersed throughout the weekend.  Get ready to be inspired!
  • Rotary International Convention in Honolulu, June 6-10, 2020  Combine a totally awesome convention experience with a tropical vacation - several Silverdale Rotarians are already planning to attend.
Lastly, Mo reminded us that “the more that we put into Rotary, the more we get back,” and she concluded with this challenge:  “Think about that one thing you would like to do in Rotary this year, and make it happen!”
