In a special presentation by District 5020 Governor Mo Fritz-Roberts, three very deserving Rotarians were named Rotarians of the Month on November 7: Peggy Templeton (August), Ashley Oaksmith (September), and Scott Shoemaker (October).  All three are relatively new Rotarians, and their contributions to our Club and beyond are extensive.

Peggy Templeton – August.  Peggy joined the Silverdale Rotary Club in 2016 and has been a positive addition ever since! Last year she assumed the role of Chair of the Club Service Committee and did a terrific job!  This year she and her husband Ron chair the Rotary  Foundation Committee and work to elevate the ways that Rotary makes a difference around the world.

Peggy recently went on a trip to Jamaica as part of a Teach the Teachers mission. As a Club we were able to help support her in this effort, broadening our Club’s impact internationally.

Peggy and her husband Ron have provided generous hospitality over the years! They have opened their home for many years to host a Salmon Bake for the incoming Exchange Student at their beautiful home on Dyes Inlet. Peggy is famous for her rolls and hosts friends, family and Rotarians with grace and warmth!

And lastly Peggy brings FUN to our Club and is always supportive of new ideas and ways of moving Rotary’s mission forward! Thank you, Peggy for your fun spirit, warm heart and generosity! You are well deserving of the honor of Rotarian of the Month!

Ashley Oaksmith – September.  Ashley joined our Club in 2017, and what a rare gift she has been. She brings a bright smile, lively spirit and kindness sorely needed in this world.

Last year she changed the life of our Exchange Student from Taiwan, Ruby Peng. Ruby’s initial transition to the U.S. was not easy, and she was quiet, a little sad and subdued. Ashley and her husband Ben welcomed Ruby into their home, and Ruby simply became a changed girl! Due to Ashley and Ben's constant care, Ruby became alight with happiness, was excited about all she was doing, and never stopped talking from that point forward.  In addition, they offered to host Ruby the entire school year!

Since then Ashley has assisted the Public Image Committee with press releases, and as Silverdale Branch Manager of the Kitsap Regional Library, assisted us with recommendations for books for elementary children for our Club’s Literacy Drive.
Ashley is a bright light in our Rotary Club! And well deserving of the honor of Rotarian of the Month.

Scott Shoemaker – October.  Many good things come from Texas….BBQ, the Texas two-step and Willie Nelson. But one of the best things to come from Texas to our Club in a long time is Scott Shoemaker!

Scott joined our Club in 2018 and from the first jumped into service above self with enthusiasm! Whether it’s commandeering a trolley transporting bags of food for homeless students, or working tirelessly collecting and hanging sponsor banners for the Duck Race, or becoming Second Chair of the Vocational Service Committee, or making oddly shaped but delicious blueberry pancakes at the pancake breakfast, or doing his part on the Turkey Trot Committee...Scott brings his own brand of joyful, enthusiastic service!

Just being around Scott makes a person glad Scott is a part of our Rotary Family, and makes a person want to do more! Thank you, Scott for bringing so much to our Club! You are well deserving of Rotarian of the Month!!
