Rotarians from the three Rotary Clubs in Barbados – Rotary Club of Barbados, Rotary Club of Barbados South, and Rotary Club of Barbados West – join with all Barbadians in expressing our sympathy with our brothers and sisters in the Bahamas following the devastation and loss of life caused by Hurricane Dorian, which hit the northern islands of Abaco and Grand Bahama.  The slow moving hurricane of unprecedented strength, hammered the islands for over 48 hours.

Rotary International, which comprises 1.2 million members around the world, has a long history of supporting communities in time of need.  The Rotary Clubs in Barbados have responded to past disasters in the region, including support for Grenada after Hurricane Ivan in 2004 and more recently after Hurricane Maria struck Dominica in 2017.  A few years ago, the Clubs, together with the Rotaract Clubs, earmarked funds to respond to such disasters.  Given the severity of damage in the Bahamas, with thousands of homes badly damaged or destroyed, the Clubs have agreed to provide US$30,000 in immediate cash assistance to the Rotary clubs in the Bahamas to support the humanitarian relief effort.

Rotary commends the Government of Barbados and those civic minded organizations who have reached out to help the Bahamas.  We are thankful to CDEMA and the emergency relief agencies that have mobilized to carry out rescue missions and provide humanitarian relief.   We know that Bahamians need our prayers and support.

Rotary will continue its efforts and persons who wish to provide assistance can also do so through Rotary by contacting any of the three Clubs or by depositing their contribution to the following account:
