President's Corner
An Open Invitation From Our President
It is my honor to be serving as the Club President for the Rotary Year 2016-2017. (July 1 – June 30). As a member of this club I am always amazed and proud of the good work we do.
Through our many programs, this year we will provide services for as many as 1700 people with a Community Christmas Dinner; we will provide high school and middle school students an opportunity to attend a weekend leadership camp; we will train over 250 youngsters on all aspects of home and community safety; we will work with dozens of high school students through our Interact Club program; we will provide a youth oriented motivational speaker to speak with 800 10th graders; we will conduct a speech contest, a music contest and an art contest for local high school students; we will award scholarships to students in need at both Oak Grove and Ranch Domacitas programs; we will award cash scholarships to select high school seniors; we will sponsor a young African man to attend a local vocational school in home country; we will honor a monthly Student of the Month and Teacher of the Month.
These are some of our legacy programs. This year we are working on several new programs. Once such program is forming a Veterans’ Committee, with the first project being to fund and place a plaque at the high school of a local fallen Marine. We are working on providing weekend meals for kids who are on the school lunch program…
…Are any of these projects exciting to you? We have a group of very committed people who get together for breakfast once a week to address these issues. We have great speakers at our weekly breakfast that keep our members in touch with what is going on in our community. We have established fundraisers that fund our projects, including this year, our 30th Annual Run Through the Vineyards.
But we need more hands. If you are looking for an opportunity to give back to our community and our world, we offer a non-political, non-religious atmosphere with likeminded, dedicated friends who accomplish more by working as team than anyone could ever achieve alone.
If this sounds interesting to you, I would like to buy you breakfast. I would like you to be my guest at our next Tuesday morning meeting. Come and sample us. You will find us friendly and in love with the Rotary movement and proud of all we accomplish both locally and around the world.
