“FIDE”, the World Chess Federation has on March 5, 2019 approved the Saint Lucia Chess Federations’ provisional membership. After several years and a concerted effort spearheaded by the work of Peace Corps Volunteers Chris and Adam with a group of Saint Lucian chess lovers and the unrelenting support of the NCF and the Ministry of Education, the Saint Lucia Chess Federation was finally formed and International Membership achieved. The declared goal is to continue to grow chess in Saint Lucia and to send a team to the Chess Olympiad in Khanty-Mansiysk, Russia in 2020. Rotary played its part in making this happen through the support of PPs Leathon and Konrad and other members. As well as together with America's Foundation for Chess making over 1700 chess sets available to the many young players across the island. All Rotarians interested in chess are invited to come any Thursday evening from 6.00 pm to Shamrocks in Rodney Bay to learn or improve their chess game.
