World Polio Day was established by Rotary International over a decade ago to commemorate the birth of Jonas Salk, who led the first team to develop a vaccine against poliomyelitis.
Polio is a crippling and potentially fatal infectious disease. There is no cure, but there are safe and effective vaccines. Polio can be prevented through immunization. Polio vaccine, given multiple times, almost always protects a child for life. The strategy to eradicate polio is therefore based on preventing infection by immunizing every child until transmission stops and the world is polio-free.

01 Polio mainly affects children under age 5.
02 There is no cure, but polio is preventable with a vaccine.
03 Only three countries remain endemic.
04 Rotary International has spear headed the campaign to reduced cases by 99.9% since 1988.
05 Until we end polio forever, every child is at risk.
SUSPENDED COFFEE.
This Tuesday we will be having a suspended coffee in order to raise funds towards the Fight against polio.
The idea of buying a suspended coffee is one whereby an individual buys a 'coffee' but it becomes suspended as they do not receive it, this is so that the coffee can be given to someone else who is in need of one but can not afford it.
In our case, each suspended coffee is a donation of 5,000/- towards the club's overall fund raising for the fight against polio.
What is even greater is that the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation will then in effect triple your donation by matching it 2:1!
