Amid the importance of keeping family happy and together, work on track and raring to go, over the Christmas and New year holidays, we still find time to serve our communities at a time when it would be all too easy to forget them.

This is what it means to be a Rotarian.

The Rotary Club of Dar es Salaam Oyster Bay conducted a heartwarmingly successful couple of campaigns collecting items to support children around Tanzania.

Karambezi Cafe and Havana Cafe hosted Donation and gift boxes for kids who are in the Join Hands Tanzania programme.

Shrijee's Supermarkets teamed up with RCDOB as well, collecting all kinds of goods for the Moyo wa Huruma Orphanage in Geita, via our fellow Rotarian, Willison, and additionally, we dropped off a significant amount of donations to the Muhimbili's Childrens' Ward.

At our first meeting this year, Rotarian Gwynneth announced that we were able to distribute donations of clothes and toys for infants, children and also to some of their mothers/caregivers with them at the hospital, plus snacks of juice, biscuits and muffins.  A total of 214 children/parents received the donations, with the breakdown as follows:

Cancer unit - 40

Burn unit - 20

Paediatric surgery - 25

General paediatrics - 76

Malnutrition unit - 22

Diarrhea unit - 18

Kangaroo care (premature babies and their mothers) - 13

"The children and their parents were all very happy and appreciative, and it was a really fun morning for the Rotarians and their families participating in the distribution to see their happy faces :)" Rotarian Gwynneth said.
