Local Cookie Baker Has Found a National MarketChehalis Rotary was recently visited by the purveyor of snickerdoodles and similar wares, Callie Carpenter. She shared her story of creating delicious treats for a gluten intolerant family member to a company with world wide distribution. "It all began with our family and our family’s cookie recipe. You could say life doesn’t get any better when you have a warm chocolate chip cookie in your hand. I mean, how cliche is that? But one day our cliche story took a hard right when we discovered one of our family members suffered from extreme (and we mean extreme) food allergies and intolerances. Right then and there we knew our cookies would have to be completely reinvented, but it would have to be without compromising flavor, texture, and consistency. Honestly, we weren’t sure if this was even possible, but to us it was war. With our family pride on the line, we set out to make a cookie so good and so naturally cookie-ish that you would never be able to tell it was also 100% vegan and gluten-free. Back then, we never imagined we would have the opportunity to sell them to the world."

Chehalis Rotarian Alex Goedhard Celebrates 90 years!Chehalis Rotary celebrated the 90th birthday of long time member Alex Goedhard at the January 24, 2018 meeting. Cake and singing were enjoyed by all. Alex has been involved in many Rotary activities through the years, but his passion has been coordinating and supporting the Salvation Army Belling Ringing efforts for our club. He always makes sure all our time slots are filled and is especially proud of how much money our club has collected to help individuals in need during the holidays. Many thanks to you Alex and HAPPY BIRTHDAY! There will be a family sponsored celebration on Saturday, January 27, 2018 at the Gathering Place at Stillwater Estates from 2:00pm-4:00pm and all are welcome to attend.

Homeless Children Receive School Supply Shopping Spree thanks to Chehalis Rotary
The Chehalis Rotary Club recently hosted a school supply shopping night for children in the Chehalis School District who are considered homeless. Forty kindergarten through 12th grade students took advantage of the opportunity to pick out their own supplies. On average, each child spent fifty dollars and left the Chehalis Walmart with a big smile and ready to start a new school year. Additional funds will be expended throughout the year to pay for fees and other items that would be difficult for families to cover. With a total of $5,000.00 available, it is expected that up to 100 students will receive resources to help them with their education expenses this school year.
Fundraising proceeds from the Chehalis Rotary Corn Booth and Golf Ball Drop (both held at the SWW Fair), along with a Rotary District 5020 matching grant were used to fund this event. |
