Guanaja Fire Update
Oct. 07, 2021
Dino Giovanni Silvestri Molina was born in the capital city of Tegucigalpa but was only there for a few days as his family moved to the Bay Islands in the 1970s. a Ceiba. Mr. Dino expressed that his father had been coming to the Bay Islands since the 1970s. Dino grew up in the Bay Islands of Honduras living in French Harbour and Los Fuertes. At the age of 14, he moved to La Ceiba to attend the Mazapán School; a bilingual high school in La Ceiba where he graduated in 2008.
In 2008, Dino applied to and was accepted at Loyola university in New Orleans, Louisiana. On his partial scholarship, he majored and graduated with a degree in business administration with a specialty in finance. While abroad, he used his post-secondary education and worked as a financial analyst in which he specialized in doing early-stage investment of biotech companies. In 2015, he returned to Roatan where he worked for his family business Aserosa Insurance and Gio’s Restaurants. In 2016, he was invited by Mr. Kenny McNab to get involved with the National party and eventually became a candidate and got involved in politics. Dino has served as Governor of the Bay Island since February 14, 2018.
Dino was instrumental in early days of the COVID-19 pandemic and he quickly established “The COVID-19 Response Team”, which was overwhelmingly successful in bringing over hundreds of thousands of dollars of donations and medical/respiratory equipment, personal protective equipment (PPE), test kits and much more, to the Bay Islands. A large part of this was a relationship he established with Mr. Michael McCarry of the Mount Sinai Hospital System in New York. These donations not only benefitted the Bay Islands, but also the mainland of Honduras, Guatemala and Belize with the distribution of over 1,000 respiratory machines through Mr. McCarry, who also developed protocols for their use which have saved countless lives throughout Central America.
In the past week, the Governor has been working around the clock on the ground of the Bonacca Cay fire and with various organizations orchestrating the immediate needs of the residents and also the planning for clean up and the eventual rebuilding of the community.

We all need a get together every so often, but also by participating in one social event a month as Rotarians we are supporting our local businesses that have been struggling due to the COVID restrictions. So this is where we can meet face to face, where ideas have a chance to be born and grow. Members are encouraged to bring potential members and meet new people at the venue. But most of all where we as friends can relax together, catch up on what has been happening in each others lives. In general spend time with one another. Hope to see you there.
