Bridging Bremerton

In 1930, the Manette Bridge was constructed over the Port Washington Narrows for the first time. Sixty years ago, in 1958, a second span, the Warren Avenue Bridge, was opened. Those spans were built for cars. But they serendipitously created a 2.8 mile walking and running path many of us know, love and call “the bridges” route. On Saturday, June 23, the Kitsap Sun will host all-day festivities aimed at celebrating this urban trail with walking tours, scavenger hunts and a pub crawl. As a bonus, every person will go home June 23 with a map and guide of this urban trail, as a way of celebrating and commemorating the history along it.
