The Rotary Club of Hope Island is very proud to announce the launch of the Rotary Hope Island Armistice Memorial, a community memorial in Hope Island created to honour servicemen and women who made the ultimate sacrifice for Australia.

In 2018, Rotary Hope Island applied for a Federal government grant under the Armistice Centenary Grants Program managed by the Department of Veterans Affairs. We were successful in securing a $50,000 grant to commence planning and construction of the Memorial.  Working in partnership with Mulpha Sanctuary Cove along with DBI Architectural Design on a pro bono basis, a Memorial design was created and approved.

It is Rotary Hope Island’s goal to establish a Memorial that will leave a legacy for Hope Island generations to come, to educate our children about the importance of honouring our proud past and to provide a place of quiet reflection for members of the Hope Island community.

The fundraising target for the Memorial is $180,000.  It will be constructed on the island at the entrance to Sanctuary Cove, and will be the perfect location for the Hope Island community to remember important dates including ANZAC Day and Remembrance Day.  Rotary Hope Island has not only contributed significant club funds, but has been fundraising actively in the local community and working with local businesses to raise funds to ensure completion of the project.

Construction will commence once the funding target has been reached and we anticipate the Memorial will be dedicated in the second half of 2019.

We are very fortunate to have some key partners in this project and would like to acknowledge –

  • Mulpha Sanctuary Cove
  • Bendigo Bank
  • DBI Design
as well as numerous individual donors who have supported the project financially.

The Rotary Hope Island Armistice Memorial will honour our Australian military servicemen and women. With local community support the Memorial will stand as a record of their honour and our gratitude.
