At 07:15 Bob Beaumont, filling in for the missing President Bob Guerette, called the meeting to order and led us in the Pledge of Allegiance. He then called upon Pastor Ron for the Invocation and followed that up by calling on Fred Burgess for Happy / Sad dollars.

Pastor Ron had happy dollars for finalizing plans to go to San Diego over Christmas to see his Grandchild. Joel Merry had happy dollars for the continued great fall weather and a very interesting visit to DC to participate in a national Law Enforcement conference. Bill Brillant had a happy dollar for a stepdaughter turning 18 IN CHINA. Bob Davis had a happy $10 for speaker Bill Brillant for volunteering to be Chairmen of the United Way campaign. Past United Way Chair Bob Beaumont echoed that, emphasizing what a great choice Bill was for the position. Bob also had a happy dollar for the great fall weather. Fred Burgess had a happy dollar for the last big motorcycle ride of the season, this one to Bass Harbor. Gordon had a happy dollar for being at the meeting and enjoying the stories.  His Presidential question – which non-consecutive president had an artificial jaw? The non-consecutive bit narrowed it down substantially with Bob Davis being correct with Grover Cleveland.

Under Announcements Bob reconfirmed Saturday, December 9 as our work-day for the “new build” for Habitat for Humanity. The project is finishing off the interior of a new, modular home on Middle Street in Bath. Please reserve the date on your calendar, either half or all day.

We agreed to sponsor a needy family for Christmas. Pastor Ron will coordinate.

We will ring bells for Salvation Army again this year. Pastor Ron will schedule the date with the Salvation Army – not December 9.

Bob Davis followed up a discussion of several months ago regarding shifting the date for our major fundraiser, Music at the Museum, from early Feb to spring. He proposed Friday, May 4. The shift in date was approved unanimously.

Bob Beaumont then turned to meeting over to Bill Brillant for his presentation regarding the United Way Campaign. Bill outlined the very wide range of services provided by the various non-profit agencies funded, at least in part, by United Way contributions. This included some specifics on the number of families and individuals receiving services totaling over 20,000 mid-coast residents. This years goal is 1.8 million dollars. Bill voiced the concern that local generosity to aid victims of the recent out of state natural disasters, hurricanes, fires and tornados, could adversely impact this years local United Way drive. Bill also praised the collaborative cooperative processed used to determine the level of support provided the various United Way member agencies each year.

An interesting and informative presentation.

Next Monday, October 30, Mary Hanley will give a  presentation - “New Hope for Woman”. Hope to see you there.
