President Bob Beaumont called the meeting to order promptly at 07:15 followed by leading us all in the Pledge of Allegiance followed by a nice invocation by Pastor Ron McLaughlin. Bob then gave a short announcement that member Bill Brillant’s Mom had passed away very unexpectedly on Thursday, June 15, the day following the celebration of her and Bill’s Dad, Bob’s 60 wedding anniversary. The Viewing was to be Thursday from 6 to 8 at Stetsons Funeral Home, Brunswick, followed by the funeral mass at Saint John’s in Brunswick at 9:30 Friday morning, June 23.

Our upcoming schedule is:

June 26 – SAD 75 Foundation, primary presenter Mary Booth
July 3 – No meeting Holiday weekend
July 10 – President Turnover – Bob Guerette from Bob Beaumont

Bob then called upon Fred Burgess for Happy / Sad dollars. Fred started with Prez. Bob who had a happy dollar for a fun weekend hosting long time friends as house guests over the weekend and a sad dollar for the passing of Bill Brillant’s Mom. Bob Davis had a happy dollar for Ben Twinning’s talk last week on the Ocean’s Eco System with a sad dollar that Pastor Ron missed it and a chuckle thinking of all the interesting questions Ron would have had (though Gordon and Ron K had their share of interesting questions). Pastor Ron had a happy dollar for a visit from long time friends and explained that he had spent the past week showing them the beauty of Maine including a visit to Acadia. Russ Andrews had a sad dollar for accidentally killing a dear that ran in front of his vehicle. While an avid hunter he explained that he hates to see any animal killed accidently by a vehicle. He also had a happy dollar for visits from friends. Gordon had an Information dollar, explaining that Connecticut has the dubious distinction of having the nations highest rate of deer killings by traffic, attributed largely to not allowing any hunting of deer in the state, leading to an overpopulation of deer that is only partially controlled by those hit by moving traffic. This week’s presidential question was who was the first sitting President to win a Nobel Peace Prize. None of us guessed Teddy Roosevelt. Fred had a happy dollar for a great motorcycle ride over the weekend.

Todays program was the Club’s financial status from Bob Davis, complete with detailed financial reports of both the Operating Fund and the Charitable Fund. Both are solvent and expected to remain so for the Rotary Year starting July 1. No question that adding more members would increase our available funds for support of local and international programs.

I hope to see you all tomorrow.
