Minutes of April 23, 2018

At 07:15 Club President Bob Guerette called us to order and led us in the Pledge of Allegiance. Pastor Ron, retuning after a several week absence due to surgery, gave a nice invocation, reminding us of the good in Gods world and calling us to service. Bob then reminded us that as we had no speaker scheduled for this date it would be a Club meeting, focusing on preparations for our Music at the Museum fundraiser in a few weeks. Before getting to that Bob asked Fred to lead the Happy / Sad Dollars.

Pastor Ron led off with happy dollars to be back from his surgery and on the mend – a long, strange trip. Bob Beaumont was glad to have Ron back with us and happy for the Boston sports fans with Celtics and Bruins leading playoff series and the Sox off to their best start ever. Joel had happy dollars for a sore back but completed spring clean up of his yard and a happy dollar for a week on the road with busloads of Middle School kids on the multi state Heritage Trip. Bill Brillant had a happy dollar for one of the true end-of-winter signs at his house, putting away the ash can for the season. Bob Davis had a happy dollar for nice spring days. Fred Burgess had happy dollars for Bruin’s playoff hockey. Prez. Bob had a happy dollar for discovering the Cliff Walk in Harpswell and a nice afternoon hike. Gordon had a happy dollar for spring and an interesting Presidential question. Who was the first president to own a radio and to speak over the radio – Warren G Harding.

Bob Davis then added his interesting bit of statistics. What percentage of calls in Baseball are overturned upon review? 52% was much more than any of us guessed.

We then shifted to an update on our event planning with Bill Brillant, Bob Davis and Bob Guerette all filling in the pieces. Bob Davis said we may reach $30,000 gross as sponsorship is up this year with Bob Guerette getting some new sponsors this year. Bill Brillant gave an update on silent auction items. While we can still use a few more items we have a nice range of items. Bob Beaumont agreed to handle the set up of the silent auction area. Family Focus is handling the food with a picnic theme this year.  There will be a donated Children’s book on each table with the intent of someone at that table purchasing it for $15.

The pledge round will be to fight Opioid addiction. Mid Coast Hospital will handle the explanation of the program. Retiring MDAD 75 Superintendent Brad Smith will be the recipient of the Mustard Seed award.

Sort of under announcements we had the following:
The Club Annual Goal is $250 toward Polio Plus and $750 toward the Foundation. Prez. Bob suggested the Club consider making up any shortfall, if, when we get into June, we haven’t\’t reached those figures.
We got a nice Thank You from Stacy at People Plus for our contribution.
The Scoop-a-Thon for the People Plus Teen Center is Wednesday at Gelato Fiasco.
We have out 18 Sugar Maple Seedlings. Bob Beaumont will care for them as we determine where to plant them. With the Music at the Museum event Friday, May 4th we may skip the meeting on May 7.

Bob’s thought for the day:

“Coming together is a beginning, Keeping together is progress, Working together is success”
Henry Ford

I hope to see you tomorrow, April 30 when our speaker will be David Griffin.
