Ukraine: Past, present, persistence.

Dr. Krawchenko is a Ukrainian-Canada academic (expert in regional development) and grew up in both countries.Ukraine is a country with ancient foundations. Its rich lands have long been a source of conflict and yet, Ukrainian identity, culture and language have endured—even after centuries of brutal Russian colonialism. For Ukrainians, Russia’s war in Ukraine and the genocide they are committing today are a continuation of the violence faced by previous generations. In this presentation, Dr. Krawchenko will describe Ukraine’s nationhood and democracy—past, present and future.

Dr. Krawchenko has written guidebooks on Ukrainian history and culture and edited Euromaidan: History in the Making (Osnovy press). She has family in Ukraine, including her sister, who is a refugee today due to Russian aggression.
