Following a 32 year career in the Canadian Foreign Service and five years as CEO of the Saskatchewan Trade and Export Partnership, John and Beverley moved to Sidney in 2005. 
 
They established The Treleaven Consulting Group which for the next 12 years worked with public and private sector organizations facing challenges in international market.
 
John is a Past Chair and Director of the Saanich Peninsula Chamber of Commerce, a Founding Director of the Hong Kong-Canada Business Association, A former director of the forum for International Trade Education, Chair and Founding Director of the Grumpy Taxpayer$ of Greater Victoria. Commenting on municipal governance in the CRD he is a frequent voice on CFAX, contributor of letters to the editor in the TC and Black Press newspapers.
 
With John Juricic he is now a contributor to two YouTube channels, one focusing on Trade Diversification and the other amplifying the voice of the Grumpy Taxpayer$.
 
His policy concerns for years have been strengthening Canada as a platform for our global trade success the need for strengthened transparency and accountability at the municipal level .
 
John first joined Rotary in 1974 – The Rotary Club of San Juan Puerto Rice, thereafter in San jose Costa Rica 1976-68, Manila 1997-2000, Regina Saskatchewan 2000-2005 and Sidney by the Sea 2005 - present. He has been the Speaker Seeker in that club for 10 years.
 
He served in seven posts abroad including Ambassador to the Philippines from 1997 to 2000. He was awarded an honourary PhD from the University of Baguio in 2005, the Saskatchewan Centennial Medal in 2005 and the Queen’s Jubilee Medal.
 
Hopelessly addicted to golf he and Beverley have been married for 57 years and consider Greater Vicroria their home.
