INTERNATIONAL YACHTING FELLOWSHIP OF ROTARIANS
(I.Y.F.R.)
The 1989-90 Rotary theme was "Enjoy Rotary" and what better way than by joining a fellowship.
Fellowships are groups of Rotarians interested in a particular activity, such as flying, skiing, yachting, etc., who get together and enjoy Rotary. There are 25 fellowships offering this opportunity, the largest being the I.Y.F.R., The International Yachting Fellowship of Rotarians.
It was started in England in 1947 and has spread around the world in the form of 72 "Fleets" being formed by groups of Rotarians, and held together by an "International Bridge" who administer it world-wide and produce a world roster of all "lYForians" every two years, which is sent to all its members. Periodical news letters are published to keep all members informed of world-wide activities.
The Vancouver Island Fleet was organized by our member Past President George Kent in 1983. It was the pioneer fleet in Canada. The fleet now has 80 members. Due to his energy and enthusiasm George became the International Commodore for 1989-91 and our member Jack Keyzer was the International Commodore for 1993-95.
