Okay, now we’re really, really serious. As of last count we still need 10 auction items. If you are one of the Rotarians who is still riding around with an auction item or two in your car, please get them to Joe Moreshead or to Jackson Brown or to me and we will make sure we get them to Joe.
I also want to make a pitch to have everyone sign up to help at the auction. There are several options. You can help set up on April 2. We are usually done in the morning. You can sign up for many different tasks on the day of the auction (April 3). You can work on the phone bank, tabulation, “Pick and Pay”, auctioneering, etc. Please make sure to sign up for something. A couple of hours in most cases are all that we need. It is really fun to see it live and it is a great way to get to know your fellow Rotarians.
If any of you did not make last week’s meeting we had Ed Bilsky from UNE speak. Ed is an opiate addiction expert who has spoken all over the country on the subject. It was disturbing to learn that our brains are in some respects predisposed to addiction. So not only are people fighting the over-prescription of opiates, the misuse of other recreational drugs leading to more dangerous drugs, poverty and broken homes, but they are also fighting their own biological makeup. Fighting the misuse of drugs is a daunting task, but it is a battle worth fighting and we should all be very proud of our club taking this community leadership role.
Finally, we all have the opportunity to serve as mentors/ discussion leaders at Biddeford High School for a period of 5 weeks starting on Monday the 21st. Elias Fletcher from Biddeford High School will attend our meeting on March 16 and after the meeting anyone interested in being a discussion leader can meet with Elias to get all the details. I think it will be an interesting and rewarding opportunity for us and for the students.
