SPEAKER: ROBERT BIGGS, EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR OF MAIN STREET SACO
  • Robert was travelling 40+ weeks per year for his job when he decided to move to Maine
  • He and his family chose Saco because of the welcoming community
  • There are 10 Main Street programs in Maine and 15 affiliates
  • Some events supported by the program include the car show, artwalk, and pumpkin harvest festival
  • The light parade at Christmas last year had over 100 participants and thousands in attendance
  • Saco Scoop is owned and operated by Main Street Saco as a source of fundraising
  • The program was responsible for the flags on Main Street as well as self-watering flower displays
  • Rock and roll physical distancing signs were added for COVID awareness
  • The program has shifted to assisting small businesses with COVID changes (including helping with PPP forms and setting up outdoor dining)
  • The light parade is cancelled this year but there will be a light display on Main Street from Beach Street to the train tracks
  • Decorative crosswalks are a possibility in the future, as well as murals and public art pieces
