Suffield Rotary Club Meeting Minutes-October 24, 2017
 
Opening and Welcome:  Vice President Charles Roumas opened the meeting with the Pledge of Allegiance and the recitation of the Rotary Four-Way Test and Tom Sullivan led the club in “God Bless America”.  
 
Members Present: Dale Baker, Gayle Demko, Jed Dery, Greg DeSantis, Frank DiGennaro, Jackie Guzie, Gail Handley, Greg Heineman, Don Miner, Jack Muska, Ken Pascoe, Roger Pratt, Jay Presser, Charles Roumas, Gordon Stagg and Tom Sullivan. Attendance: 53%   16/30  
 
Guests:   Roz Luongo, our speaker.
 
Announcements/Program:  Charles Roumas opened the meeting with a welcome to our guest speaker. He thanked those who volunteered at the Discover CT Bike & Ride event held the previous Sunday:  Dick Kisiel and Natalie Donais, Bob Lowell and Roger Pratt, Gayle Demko and Charles Roumas and Greg DeSantis and Frank DiGennaro each worked a shift at the event.
 
SPECIAL NOTE:  The American Flag and Rotary gear stand have been located and will be available for our next meeting.
 
Events:  Senior Sand & Salt program.  Ken Pascoe notes there is a sign up for bucket deliveries at the Senior Center and the event has been advertised in the Suffield Observer.  Anticipated are 40 buckets for delivery the first week of December.
 
HOLIDAY PARTY – DECEMBER 5 – SAVE THE DATE.  Jackie Guzie will provide further details as the event is firmed up.
 
SPEAKER:  Roz Luongo introduced the group to a Massachusetts based 501(c)3 program entitled Neighbor Brigade.  Roz  co-created the first Connecticut chapter in Suffield earlier this year and is advertising its attributes in an effort to expand both its volunteers and participants.  Examples of the free service include: meals delivered to your doorstep, rides to medical appointments, errands, light household chores and dog walking or light pet care (non-boarding).  This service is designed to fill the gap between the immediate need of a resident as other available services are ramped up.  Do you have time to volunteer or know of a candidate who would benefit from this service?  Contact Roz thru their website www.neighborbrigade.org or directly thru email at SuffieldCt@neighborbrigade.org
 
Birthdays and Anniversaries:  Roger Pratt celebrated a birthday on the 17th, and the club welcomed him tonight with  a birthday serenade.
 
Blue Ticket Winners:  Greg Heineman had the winning blue ticket, with sides won by Ken Pascoe and Gayle Demko.
 
Queen of Hearts:  Don Miner had the winning ticket, but did not select the queen. Next week’s drawing $651+.
 
Adjournment: Charles adjourned the meeting and Tom led a closing song.
