Suffield Rotary Club Meeting Minutes-October 17, 2017
 
Opening and Welcome:  Dick Kisiel opened the meeting with the Pledge of Allegiance and the recitation of the Rotary Four-Way Test and Scott Seabury led the club in “God Bless America”.  
 
Members Present: , Gayle Demko, Jed Dery, Frank DiGennaro, Greg DeSantis, Natalie Donais, Gail Handley, Richard Kisiel, Jon Kozloski, Robert Lowell, Jack Muska, Ken Pascoe, Ray Perleoni, Jay Presser, Don Rawling, Charles Roumas, and Scott Seabury. Attendance: 53%   16/30  
 
Guests:   Karen Berasi (sponsor Dick Kisiel); Dr Christina Fitch (sponsor Natalie Donais); Student of the Month guests: Emily Bernabe & her dad, Jeff Bernabe; Shannon Frechette and parents Amber & Gary Frechette with nominating school staffers – Patrick Brintle and Eric Senger.
 
Announcements/Program:  President Dick Kisiel opened the meeting with a welcome to our guests and families.    
 
Dick thanked the committee for the great celebration at Fox Hollow Gun Club for the traditional lobster fest.  This is an enjoyable and well deserved event for the group.
 
SPECIAL NOTE:  The American Flag and Rotary gear stand are no longer found in the Suffield by the River closet.  These items have been removed from the building and we are hoping to locate them – please advise if you have any knowledge of their whereabouts so we might recover the flag and stand for use at our weekly meetings.
 
Events:  October 22 (Sunday) “Discover Suffield” bike event.  250 riders are anticipated and the Rotary has been asked to man the Sunrise Park water station.  Two volunteers per shift will be needed and Dick passed around a signup sheet.
 
SPEAKER:  Natalie detailed the ‘service above self’ focus for a Student of the Month nominee and then introduced the Suffield High School staff member who outlined the reasons for the nominations of our September and October recipients.   Emily Bernabe and Shannon Frechette both then treated the audience to a summary of their previous and current high school experience and their aspirations.  Natalie presented each student with a copy of Teens Can Make it Happen with our thanks for their fine leadership and experiences working with peer groups.    
 
Birthdays and Anniversaries:  Greg DeSantis celebrated an anniversary this week.
 
Blue Ticket Winners:  Frank DiGennaro had the winning blue ticket, with sides won by Jon Kozloski and Bob Lowell.
 
Queen of Hearts:  Jay Presser had the winning ticket, but did not select the queen. Next week’s drawing $627+.
 
Adjournment: Dick adjourned the meeting and Scott led a closing song.
 
Program scheduled for our next meeting - Oct 24:  Roz Luongo will present Suffield CT Neighbor Brigade.
