Club Meeting November 27, 2018
 
Opening and Welcome:  President Dick Kisiel opened the meeting with the Pledge of Allegiance and the recitation of the Rotary Four-Way Test.  Scott Seabury provided the invocation and led the club singing of “God Bless America”.
 
Members Present:  Dale Baker, Gayle Demko, Greg DeSantis, Frank DiGennaro, Greg Heineman, Jackie Hemond, Heidi Huhn Partain, Richard Kisiel, Jon Kozloski, Luis Lee, Jack Muska, Ken Pascoe, Roger Pratt, Jay Presser, Don Rawling, Scott Seabury, Gordon Stagg, Tom Sullivan and Cat Thomas and honorary Member Tom Modzelesky.  (20/32….62%).
 
Guests: Our guest speaker Celia Moffie and staff, Liz Samson, community outreach director, Karen-their assistant executive director and Carlos-their outstanding chef.
 
Announcements: President Kisiel made several announcements:
Dick welcomed Tom Modzelesky  to our meeting.
 
Surveys:  Dick emailed surveys to the club members and asks they be completed and returned by Dec 11; either email survey to Dick or bring to our meeting.  Survey has been attached to this document for your convenience.
 
Holiday Party:  The Holiday Party is scheduled for Dec. 4 at Crestview Country Club in Agawam MA.  The festivities will begin with appetizers at 6 pm.  The cost is $45.00 a person and will include entertainment.  Signups were collected and payment made to Roger at the event.
Sand & Salt:  Ken announced the event has been advertised in the Observer and he anticipates the need for two trucks to deliver the buckets to Seniors requesting them. Those volunteering to assist should meet at Flyer Place at 8:30 AM Saturday, Dec 1.
 
Salvation Army Bell Ringing:  Dec 22 & 23 at Dunkin Donuts and Highland Park.  Joe Blake will handle set up and take down of the donation kettle; a sign up was passed and Dick will contact Interact Club to request their assistance again this year.
 
Cat Thomas relayed the success of the Rotary Distinguished Speaker program which began today.  She felt the questions were very good and that the audience was quite receptive as she described her role in municipal government.  Dick thanked the members who have signed up to participate in this program.
 
Dick has requested a Membership Committee meeting be held at his home on December 9.  Details will follow.
 
PROGRAM:  Dick introduced our speaker, Celia Moffie, owner of Suffield by the River.  Celia recognized the Rotary for their six years of support in meeting at her facility and also relayed that today marks the 20th anniversary of Suffield by the River’s opening.  Suffield House opened in 1991.  Celia noted assisted living was a new concept for Connecticut and thanks her staff which has been with the facility for many years.  She welcomed Suffield Rotary to consider utilizing the facility whenever needed.     
 
Blue Ticket Winners: Blue ticket winner was Tom Sullivan with sides won by Heidi and Jay Presser.
Queen of Hearts:  Greg Heineman had the winning ticket and did not pull the Queen of Hearts.  Total winning pot now stands at $1114+.
 
Birthdays and Anniversaries: None.
Adjournment: Scott closed the meeting with a group singing of “My Country Tis of Thee”.

Holiday Tree Gala:  Suffield Rotary has sponsored a Christmas Tree at the Holiday Tree Gala Event which is open for viewing at the Suffield Senior Center.  Trees are available for purchase.  The event runs Dec 1-15 – weekdays 9-4 – weekends 1-4.  Suffield Garden Club has sponsored this program and encourages all to come and enjoy a bit of Holiday magic.
