Club Meeting July 17, 2018
 
Opening and Welcome:  President Dick Kisiel welcomed everyone and opened the meeting with the Pledge of Allegiance and the recitation of the Rotary Four-Way Test.  Club members paused with a personal self-reflection.  Dick led the club in singing of “God Bless America”.
 
Members Present:  Dale Baker, Jed Dery, Frank Gail Handley, Heidi Partain, Richard Kisiel, Jon Kozloski, Don Miner, Catherine Morrow, Jack Muska, Ken Pascoe, Ray Perleoni, Roger Pratt, Jay Presser, Don Rawling, Gordon Stagg, Tom Sullivan, and Nancy Viggiano (17/34….50%).
 
Guests: Lester Smith, Kim Miner, Johanne Presser and Christian von der Schulenburg from Kronberg, Germany
 
Announcements:
Jed Dery reported on behalf of the Golf Committee that the tournament needs the support of club members with soliciting raffle prizes and wine donations.  Wine donations can be made up to August 7.  Twenty-three teams signed up (last year 26).
 
PROGRAM:  Lester Smith, Suffield’s well-known local history aficionado, shared from actual letters and documents, resident opinions and views about the unfair taxes levied upon the colonies, the importance of Suffield to defend itself against such oppressiveness and declare itself independent of such domination.  Lester read sections of the Declaration of Independence throughout his presentation.
 
Happy Dollars:  Lots of happiness this week with $66 collected in Happy Dollars.
 
Blue Ticket Winners: Congratulations to the Blue ticket side winner Jed Dery.
 
Queen of Hearts:  Cat Morrow had the winning red ticket but did not select the Queen of Hearts. Total winning pot now stands at $455+.
 
Birthdays and Anniversaries: Club member serenaded Heidi Partain with a mixed version of “Happy Birthday.”
 
Adjournment and closing song.  The meeting closed with the singing of “My Country Tis of Thee>”
