Club Meeting January 8, 2019
 
Opening and Welcome:  President Dick Kisiel opened the meeting with the Pledge of Allegiance and the recitation of the Rotary Four-Way Test.  Scott Seabury provided the invocation and led the club singing of “God Bless America”.
 
Members Present:  Dale Baker, Gayle Demko, Jed Dery, Frank DiGennaro, Natalie Donais, Gail Handley, Greg Heineman, Richard Kisiel, Jon Kozloski, Luis Lee, Bob Lowell, Don Miner, Jack Muska, Ken Pascoe, Roger Pratt, Jay Presser, Scott Seabury, Gordon Stagg, Tom Sullivan and Nancy Viggiano.  (20/31….65%).
 
Guests: None.
 
Announcements: 
Dick wished the group a Happy New Year and passed around the thank you notes received over the holidays.  The bell ringing project raised over $1600 for the Suffield Emergency Aid, the highest figure reached to date!  Thanks to all who helped with this project!
 
Our new slate of officers includes two new roles; our by-laws will need to be amended to include the added role of assistant secretary and assistant treasurer.  A motion to approve the inclusion of these two positions was made and carried.  The following will be added to the by-laws:
 
Article 2   Board
The governing body of this club shall be the board consisting of up to nine (9) members of this club. This shall include the president, the immediate past president, the president-elect (or president-nominee, if no successor has been elected), vice-president, secretary, assistant secretary, treasurer, assistant treasurer, and the sergeant-at-arms.  At the discretion of the board, three (3) additional directors can be elected in accordance with article 3, section 1 of these bylaws..
Article 4   Duties of Officers
 
 
Section 7 – Assistant Secretary.  The assistant secretary will act and serve on the board in the absence of the club secretary and perform such responsibilities to support the role of club secretary particularly in the area of communication and public relations.
 
Section 8 – Assistant Treasurer.  The assistant treasurer will act and serve on the board in the absence of the club secretary, be a member of the club’s budget committee, and perform such responsibilities to support the role of the club treasurer.
 
 
PROGRAM:  Dick utilized the survey results to begin a discussion of goals for the upcoming year.  He noted:
  • Number one priority should focus upon increasing membership; a meeting with the membership committee to work on a plan of action for this goal is scheduled for Thur, Jan 24.
  • Jack Muska shared the financials with the group.
  • Currently following up on a group project to improve Suffield’s Sunrise Park – playground and walking trail
  • FOFAH – Farm project still underway
  • Public Image – Website and publications need more attention
  • Advertising – Need Rotary sign displayed at all functions and volunteer opportunities (Inventory of Rotary equipment stored in barn has been requested)
  • Wine & Beer Fundraiser – Date needs to be confirmed for this Spring – location tentatively at Suffield By The River.
 
Blue Ticket Winners: Blue ticket winner was Gail Handley with side winners Scott and Gordon.
Queen of Hearts:  Don Miner had the winning ticket and did not pull the Queen of Hearts.  Total winning pot now stands at $37.
 
Birthdays and Anniversaries: None celebrated this evening.
Adjournment: Scott closed the meeting with a group singing of “My Country Tis of Thee”.
