Club Meeting: February 4, 2020
 
Opening and Welcome: President Gayle Demko opened the meeting with the Pledge of Allegiance and the recitation of the Rotary Four-Way Test. Vice President Scott Seabury provided the invocation and led the club singing of “God Bless America.”
 
Members Present: Cheryl Armata, Dale Baker, Ginny Bromage, Gayle Demko, Jed Dery, Frank DiGennaro, Natalie Donais, Noreen Harnett, Greg Heineman, Jackie Hemond, Dick Kisiel, Don Miner, Jack Muska, Paul Muska, Roger Pratt, Don Rawling, Renae Ransdell, Scott Seabury, Gordon Stagg and Nancy Viggiano (20/36 = 56%)

Announcements:
President Gayle Demko welcomed members to tonight’s meeting.
 
Cornhole Tournament: Members gave positive reviews of the Cornhole Tournament. Members thought the event was fun, and it was a great opportunity to meet the Knights of Columbus and their spouses. It was also good to change the rules to reduce the score from 21 points to 11 points to save time. The overall cost to the Club was less than $200, a good value for the fun event with lots of food. Special thanks to Tom Sullivan to taking photos and for compiling a photo book for all to enjoy.
 
Polio Fund: The Club will be forwarding a $500 contribution to Rotary International’s Polio Fund. The Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation will be matching these contributions $2 for every $1 contributed.
 
Wine Tasting: Our second annual Wine Tasting event will take place at Suffield by the River (7 Canal Road) on Friday, April 24. Doors will open at 7:00 p.m. with event beginning at 7:30 p.m. The price will be $35 for single and $60 for couples. If Last year’s event was sold out and a great success. The venue was good and the same vendors will be participating. A buffet dinner is planned. The planning committee is looking for raffle prizes. you can ask local businesses for support or have a gift to donate, please share with Ginny Bromage or Nancy Viggiano.
 
Sunrise Park: Jack Muska reported that the grand opening will take place on Saturday, April 25. More information will be provided when timing is determined.
 
Queen of Hearts: Note that there are only a few cards left!
 
Suffield by the River: Note that there is a new guest sign-in procedure. Please stop by the front desk to sign-in and wear the guest sticker while attending our meeting.
 
Program:
Gayle Demko introduced our program for the evening: an introduction of our new members and a meet-and-greet challenge.
 
Noreen Harnett has been a teacher at Suffield High School for 15 years, teaching French and Spanish. Noreen enjoys educating Suffield students and introducing Students of the Month at our meetings. Noreen lives in Granby and is originally from New Milford by way of Cape Cod. Noreen graduated from Canterbury School and Smith College. Noreen also has three master’s degrees. Noreen’s hobbies include attending sports games, international travel and reading. Members thanked Noreen for her introduction.
 
Cheryl Armata is recently retired after a 32 year career at MassMutual where she served as a lawyer in their real estate division. Cheryl graduated from Western New England College. Cheryl is very proud of her family, including two sons and nephew. Her sons were previously awarded Student of the Month recognition by Suffield Rotary. Cheryl enjoys keeping active with tennis and volunteering. Members thanked Cheryl for her introduction.
 
A meet-and-greet challenge was organized, encouraging members to circulate and ask each other questions to fill out a matrix. Cheryl Armata and Jackie Hemond won the challenge, and they were awarded local gift certificates.
 
Blue Ticket Winners: No blue ticket winner, and Noreen Harnett was the only side winner.
 
Queen of Hearts: Don Miner had the winning ticket and did not pull the Queen of Hearts. Total winning pot now stands at $1,958.
 
Birthdays and Anniversaries: Honorary Member Luis Lee’s birthday was January 27.
 
Adjournment: Scott Seabury closed the meeting with a group signing of “My Country Tis of Thee.”
