The Rotary Club of Sooke recently adopted a section of Highway 14, from the Sooke River Bridge to Stickleback. The Rotarians have partnered with the Sooke Youth Council in helping keep Sooke clean and tidy.

Most of the litter along our highway is plastic, a lot of it stuff that blows away in our regular windy days, like shopping bags.  Others likely found their way out of cars, like fast food leftovers (which, interestingly, appears to be pretty even between the different restaurants).  The most common piece of trash?  Cigarette butts....thousands and thousands of them lining our highway.  A plea to Sooke's smokers -- the great outdoors is not an ashtray, the butts don't just disappear -- please dispose of butts in the garbage, not out your window.  The Rotary Club and Sooke Youth Council will be out there on the highway every 3 months -- when you pass by the people in the yellow vests, give a honk and a wave!
