Hello fellow Rotarians

Welcome to September, the time of year where we return to weekly meetings. I trust you have had an opportunity to enjoy your summer.

Our September 4^th meeting will be at the Sooke Community Hall downstairs in the dining room at 5:30 pm. This is a dinner meeting with Pete providing the main course and Margo rounding it off with dessert.

We are looking to do a group photo so am looking at a strong turnout for our meeting this Wednesday.

Our guest speaker this week is Estella who will be giving her classification speech. I for one am excited to hear what brought her to Sooke and Rotary, are you?

Another good reason for a strong turnout is that there are several items to discuss, your input is valued, respected and wanted.

Village Market have generously made the conference room available to Rotary every Wednesday, times are flexible. This would allow us to have one constant meeting place again that can accommodate our members. We can have a meal or just a meeting without user fees.

This also brings us to our meal expense. Meals cost $15+GST=$15.75. Members pay $15 a meal so you can see that we fall short every time. Also when we have guest speakers the meal is provided by Rotary, if more than one presenter our cost jumps up accordingly. Prospective members meals would be covered by the membership committee budget.

Do we want to stay with the time format for our meetings? We may want to consider evening meetings, no dinner but perhaps a beverage and dessert. If we could start our meeting at 6:30 it will allow several members to attend when lunch meetings just are not possible for them. Our monthly schedule could look something like this.

• 1^st Wednesday evening 6:30
• 2^nd Wednesday 12:00 lunch
• 3rd Wednesday evening 6:30
• 4^th Wednesday 12:00 lunch
• 5^th Wednesday social at location to be determined.

I know this is a long read and I appreciate you taking time to read all the way through to the bottom. I trust you will give some thought to the content prior to Wednesdays discussion.

Cindy will be speaking today about priority areas for action and an update on the health of young people across our community.
