Again this year we have the good fortune of having our guest auctioneer "Mr Mo Money" conduct the auctioneering. Come out and enjoy some great food along with a fun evening all while raising the much needed funds to achieve Rotary"s commitment to eradicate polio in the world. We're so close. Robbie Burns Celebration
Jan. 29, 2020 5:30 p.m.

|
Jan. 29, 2020 5:30 p.m. - 8:00 p.m.
***THIS IS A PREPAID EVENT, NO TICKETS WILL BE SOLD AT THE DOOR***
The date has been set and the details have all been arranged for the Club to celebrate Robbie Burns Day in a bigger and better way than we've done in the past.
When: Wednesday evening, January 29th. 5:30 for Whisky Appreciation and 6:30 for Dinner
Where: The Charters Creek Salmon Interpretive Centre at 2895 Sooke River Rd.
Why: Because it's a fun event that always attracts a large crowd.
This year we are stepping it up a notch. The Hatchery will remove all of their displays from the room to allow us to sit 60 people for the dinner, but prior to the dinner there will be a Whisky Appreciation Course taught by David MacMillan taking place at 5:30. David's the gentleman who has given us the excellent and exuberant Toast to the Haggis at the Club for the past few years. David also leads the tasting events held by the local Companions of the Quaich, which is a non-profit society dedicated to promoting and sharing knowledge and enjoyment of Single Malt Whisky. He is extremely knowledgeable about Scotch Whiskys and will lead us in a very informative discussion about the various bottles that he will bring to the event. You will also be able to sample a wee dram of each variety so that you can experience the subtle and sometimes not so subtle differences of each one.
Seating for this part of the event is extremely limited. A maximum of 24 people can be accommodated on a first come basis. Tickets will go on sale this Wednesday at our lunch. The cost of this course will be $25.00 per person. While the course is taking place, there will be a FREE private tour of the hatchery where there are currently hundreds of thousands of smolts growing that will be released later this spring when they are of sufficient size. Again this is a limited event. The tour can handle a maximum of 20 people, so while your spouse/partner is enjoying the Whisky course you can see what could eventually be on your dinner plate 3 years from now.
After the course/tour the evening starts. Doors open at 6:30 with a hearty Scottish style soup to warm you up, followed by the "Piping in of the Haggis" and the official toast. A Roast Beef Dinner with the optional Haggis will be served, followed by a presentation about the life of the Bard during the dessert course. There will be a vegetarian or fish option available for those who reserve in advance. The cost of the dinner will be $25.00 per person and again, seating is limited to a maximum of 60 people. Once the tickets are sold, we will not be able to accommodate any more, so make sure you get your tickets early.
Both of these events are open to Members, Family and Friends, so check with anyone that you think would like to attend and enjoy a memorable evening. We will be selling tickets starting this Wednesday, so get yours early before they are all gone.
