Paul Harris Fellows
The Rotary International Foundation was formed in 1928 "to accept endowments for the purpose of doing good in the world in charitable, educational or other avenues of community service." It was many years before the Rotary Foundation came "into its own." However, in 1947, at the death of Paul Harris, Rotarians decided to memorialize him by making contributions to the Foundation in his name, particularly to further his desire to advance world understanding and create friendly relations between peoples of different nations through the fostering of tangible and effective projects, including Rotary Foundation Fellowships for International Understanding. Their goal was to raise $2 million in funding for these objectives. The idea of the Paul Harris Fellow was thus born. Contributions to the Rotary Foundation in the amount of $1,000 are recognized with the Paul Harris Fellowship Award.  Paul Harris Fellowships may also be awarded by donation of Recognition Points for club services by other Paul Harris Fellows.   Paul Harris Society Members have committed to make annual contributions of at least $1,000.  Major Donors have made lifetime contributions over $10,000.
