Location: Intersection of Hwy 10 (West) & Fair Haven Rd.
Directions: Go South on HWY 10/80, Turn West on Hwy 10. Travel approximately 7 miles West.We gather & park on the south side of the road until all volunteers arrive.
Rotary is responsible for cleaning two miles of Hwy 10. One mile East & West of Fairhaven Road. Four volunteers will drive to the end of each mile and work towards Fairhaven Road. (2-West, 2-East, 1-Volunteer for each side of the road). Remaining volunteers will start from Fairhaven/Hwy 10 Intersection working towards those volunteers. Flagger signs will be out ahead of time. Filled bags can be set on the roadside and I will pick them up as the night goes.
Recommend wearing rubber knee boots or waterproof shoe wear, old jeans, and a sweatshirt. I will bring along the high-vis traffic vests, rubber gloves, & garbage bags. A spare jacket or wind breaker can be helpful.
With the correct number of volunteer’s clean-up generally takes 1 ½ hours, depending on conditions. Clean-up goes well if we can get at least 8 volunteers.
Currently the weather does not predict rain, Temps 48-52, and partly sunny. If for some reason there is a rain delay, plan on 4/22 at 5:30 PM being the back-up day. I will send out a notice if there is a cancellation.
Kids of an appropriate age have participated in the past. Parent child combo works good with the parent on the highway shoulder and the child deep in the ditch. It's a good way to introduce kids into Rotary and volunteer services. Please use your judgement.
If for some reason you are not able to participate last minute or will be a bit late, please do send me a message via email at kevin.fischer@staabco.com.
I truly appreciate your time helping with this project, your commitment to keep our environment clean, & some time outside working with each other!
