Fleur Maidment: Member presentation
An environmental scientist, Fleur worked extensively to empower communities in Australia about environmental and emergency management for more than 20 years. With this background and knowledge, she now runs her own passion project Safe Water for Every Child - Myanmar, empowering and educating local people in Myanmar and Thailand to take action and use science to prevent waterborne diseases.
The team has provided safe drinking water to over 65,000 people in remote camps and villages since 2018. As a direct result of the Myanmar coup, the focus has now turned to providing humanitarian aid to reach more than 700,000 refugees and internally displaced people who are fleeing from air strikes and mortar attacks.
She is also passionate about indigenous languages and cultures and has volunteered in Myanmar and Thailand teaching English. Alongside the safe water project, she launched a virtual tutoring program; now with over 200 tutors from around the world, matched 1:1 with refugee and stateless youth.
