Vocational Service Committee

Vocational Service focuses on:

·         Adherence to, and promotion of, the highest ethical standards in all occupations, including fair treatment of employers, employees, associates, competitors, and the public.

·         The recognition of the worthiness of all useful occupations, not just your own or those that are pursued by Rotarians.

·         The contribution of your vocational talents to the problems and needs of society.

The purview of Vocational Services covers a wide range, from the individual to the club to the workplace to the community. The role of the club is to increase employment opportunities in the community, promote a fair workplace environment, and raise vocational awareness, all through the development of projects that help members of all classifications contribute their vocational talents.

At times Vocational Service can overlap with Community service and International Service, but Vocational Service focuses on needs related to businesses and professions and ethical conduct.

Goals for Vocational Service 2010-2011 Rotary Year:

·         Schedule a vocational/classification talk at least once a month throughout the Rotary year.  The focus of the talk needs to be on the Rotarians "vocation/classification" along with some information about personal interests/family.  The talk should not exceed 7 minutes in length.  Emphasis in the talk should also include information about the individual's volunteer interests.

·         One time during the year the scheduled "vocational/classification" talk will focus on a club member (deceased) who made significant contributions in their vocational service during their lifetime - this talk will be given by an individual knowledgeable of the Rotarian and their vocation - this would be done in addition to the regular once a month schedule.

·         Schedule at least two "Rotation Days" at the business site or other site representative of the Rotarians "vocation/classification" - this might include a visit to a Rotarians area of interest beyond their "vocation" like a hobby or site where the individual volunteers their time. The first scheduled Rotation Day is set for Friday, November 12^th, 2010.

·         Put on at least one program for the club that includes a variety of "vocations/classifications" as represented by club members covering a subject of general interest to Rotarians. Suggested program would be to have the entire Club participate in a simulation of the 4Way Test program that U' Hills Rotary puts on a West Middle School.  Hoping to schedule this as a program after January 2011.

·         Seek out volunteer opportunities for club members to use their vocational talents/leadership skills in service to the community

·         Work in coordination with the membership committee, the club president, and the board to identify situations in a Rotarians life where the "MOMS" (Member on Members Service) committee can provide support in the area of employment.

·         Provide periodic reminders, especially during the month of October (Vocational Service Month), which promote the ideals of Vocational Service to the public and to each individual Rotarian.  This would include background on the 4-Way Test, Rotary in Action (Rotarians who use their vocation in community & international service areas)
