Dr. Woodland spent his career running an independent research lab studying pandemic pathogens and developing new vaccine strategies. He also served on the National Science Advisory Board for Biosecurity, which advises the government on handling extremely dangerous pathogens in the laboratory setting. Additionally, he served for many years as the Editor-in-Chief of the international journal Viral Immunology.
