As a matter of information: In January 2015, an Evergreen Kiwanis volunteer worker was tragically drowned while working on the ice in a bobcat.  As part of the response, Evergreen Park and Recreation District (EPRD) intended to disallow the ice melt event.  The final decree from the Denver Parks attorneys was that the event could continue, but that the barrel had to be placed on ice that was supervised by EPRD. The Denver Parks and Recreation controls this lake, so this is their call.  The area of controlled ice is where skating occurs and near the boat house.

Over the years, we have repeatedly appealed this ruling, the only consequence is that we irritate EPRD who is unable to change what they have been directed to do by their controlling organization.  Even though we are raising money for one of their programs, the bigger issue is the safety guidelines they are required to follow.  So, we will probably never get the barrel location we had prior to the accident in 2015.  It comes up every year and causes some angst among members.
