Program:  The  Life of an Auctioneer

OJ Pratt grew up in the auction business, declaring in his youth that he would not go into the family business. Of course that was want eventually happened.  In 1980 OJ moved to Longmont, worked for 3 years at the Longmont Police Department and in 1984 he purchased Pacific Auction.  OJ recounts the many hours spent practicing his chant as he and his father drove down the highway on the way to their next auction.
OJ offered us some guidance in the art of auctioneer speak, drawing more laughter than anything.  OJ also brought with him a few collected artifacts, also recounting the varied items he has sold over the years.  He reminded us that a good auctioneer needs to connect with his/her audience, using charisma and personality to create excitement to drive bidding and command attention of the crowd.

Pacific Auction is a family-owned and operated business, offering customers and alternative for selling goods of all kinds.  OJ has been the lead auctioneer and promoter for thousands of auctions representing over 300 million dollars in sales.

October-Raising Funds for Polio
Dan Gust, Foundation Committee member, announced that in October our club will be raising funds for Polio. To kick-off  our fund raising efforts (and utilize the talents of our program speaker), Mr. OJ Pratt, auctioned off a DeWalt Drill Set donated by ACE Hardware.  Congrats and thank you to John Caldwell for the winning bid.

New Member Invocational Talk
First Debbie Platts offered the Moment of Inspiration (Desiderata by Max Ehrmann), then she followed up with her Vocational Talk.  Thank you Debbie for sharing your story.  The club is lucky to have your influence and talents.
Need a few more club Volunteers

We to need a few more volunteers to make club meetings run smooth......
Ken Cline could use another volunteer for the Sergeant at Arms Committee.  Those duties include coming early to set-up the room and then putting those items away at the end.
Debbie Setlock needs some help with producing the weekly Rotoreador (newsletter) along with weekly club photography.  It's important to document club activities, offering that historical reference.

Past President, Dave Ferro gets to lead an in-person meeting. Thanks Dale Sherrod and Don Owen for the music.  And the lucky winner is?.....

President's Message

Hello All,

Thank you for granting me the opportunity to serve as the president of the Rotary club of Longmont for the 2021–2022 Rotary year.

The upcoming year will be one of continuing change as we start the process of returning to the “new normal“ of in-person meetings. The process is going to be a "crawl, walk, run" and I hope everyone will be patient.

The theme of this rotary year is "Serve to change lives".  It will be wonderful to be able to come up with projects to follow this theme and continue to serve our community locally nationally and internationally.

While we will not be able to have in person RYLA again this year, there will be a one day virtual session. With school being in person, I am looking forward to the Young Rotarian‘s being able to start up again in the fall. Our youth are the future of rotary!

My goal this year is to grow our club by a few members and for everyone to think of younger people in the community who would make great Rotarians.
I look forward to a terrific year.

Yours in Rotary,
Debby Paris
