Kim Manajek, the Director of the Longmont Museum spoke to us about the mission, vision and future direction of the museum. The Longmont Museum is a center for culture in Northern Colorado where people of all ages explore history, experience art, and discover new ideas through dynamic programs, exhibitions, and events.
The Longmont Museum was founded in 1936 and in 1940, the first exhibits opened to the public in the carriage house at the Callahan House. The Museum kept outgrowing its spaces, experiencing multiple moves and restructuring. In November 1999, Longmont voters approved $5 million in a bond issue to build a new museum, now enjoying its current location just east on Main St. In 2015, the Museum opened the Stewart Auditorium, an 11,000 square foot expansion made possible by a $4.5 million capital campaign. The expansion included the 250-seat Stewart auditorium, a stage area, atrium and classrooms.

Chris Ray, Foundation Committee Chair was pleased to announce that we exceeded our Polio fundraising goal this year, raising $8,791.00 thus far. Congratulations Longmont Rotary for another successful committed year. She reminded the club that the Gates Foundation will do a 2:1 match on our donation.
Congratulations to Karen Hicks who received the STAR Award on November 22nd. The following week, Karen gave her STAR award to Chris McVay. Congratulations to you both, two amazing Rotarians who give much to the community and our club.
Ryan Mason shared a sweet story about thankfulness and creativity....
A blind boy sat on the steps of a building with a hat by his feet. He held up a sign which said: "I am blind, please help." There were only a few coins in the hat. A man was walking by. He took a few coins from his pocket and dropped them into the hat. He then took the sign, turned it around, and wrote some words. He put the sign back so that everyone who walked by would see the new words. Soon the hat began to fill up. A lot more people were giving money to the blind boy. That afternoon the man who had changed the sign came to see how things were. The boy recognized his footsteps and asked, "Were you the one who changed my sign this morning? What did you write?" The man said, "I only wrote the truth. I said what you said but in a different way." What he had written was: "Today is a beautiful day and I cannot see it." Both signs told people the boy was blind. While the first sign simply said the boy was blind, the second sign pointed the fortunate ones to their positive possibilities.
Moral of the Story: Be thankful for what you have. Be creative. Be innovative. Think differently and positively. Invite the people towards good with wisdom.
The Twins Peaks Rotary has again invited our club to their Holiday Luncheon. It will be on Thursday, December 15, at Fox Hill, noon til 1:15. The fee is $24 for the luncheon, entertainment of Dualing Pianos and Jim Willard Trivia. Please RSVP to Karen Hicks, along with your check payable to Longmont Twin Peaks Rotary. Jim Britton announced our newest club project. We are helping the organization, HOPE (Homeless Outreach Providing Encouragement) with a Blue Jeans Drive. For the month of November, we are asking club members to gather up blue jeans from your closet, your partner's closet, neighbors, etc. Jim said they need mens and womens new or slightly used jeans or canvas pants Requested sizes are Mens (waist) 30- 36 and womens, 25 to 36. Jim's sign concludes with "Lets pile up those pants and fill these pockets with cash".
