Need a Face Mask?
If you need a complimentary face mask, please contact Debbie Setlock or Nancy Rezac.  It's important to stay safe.  It's also recommended to wash your mask after going out, so having more than one could be helpful.
Polio Fireside Chat

Join this conversation on Polio, hosted by Rotary District 5450 on Tuesday, April 28, 2020 at 5:00pm to 6:00pm.   The event will be emceed by our District Foundation Chair, Dave Willman.  The virtual, on-line talk requires a Zoom link to attend. Check your emails for the link and details.  It is a timely talk, as our club is in the middle of a Polio campaign.
Rotary Program on April 21st.

Julie VanDomelen, Executive Director of Emergency Family Assistance Association (EFFA), spoke to the club about their services.   EFFA has its roots dating back to 1918 when the Spanish Flu killed 8,000 in Longmont.  That tragedy birthed a community safety net of service and support.  Today EFFA provides food bank services, basic need support, family housing, case management and strategic education.  They partner with local agencies like The OUR Center and Sister Carmen Community Center.  EFFA has a major focus on preventing family homelessness.    It is estimated that their are 500 families who are homeless in Longmont, the major causal factor being economic issues.  Julie mentioned that these families are often invisible to the community.  The children maintain school education and families may move from temporary housing to the next, while the parents actively seek employment.  EFFA operates 57 units of short-term and transitional housing for families in crisis.  They believe that it is important to keep the family system intact as they move back into self sufficiency.  Atwood is one such housing project managed by EFFA.  Our club recently provided new playground equipment for Atwood.
Club Polio Campaign for April & May
In April the Foundation Committee has presented a challenge to raise funds for Polio Plus. The goal is to buy 2,000 doses.  Each dose is $3.00, so our goal is $6,000.  Last year, with the 2:1 matching funds from the Gates Foundation, our club raised $75,705.00.
While our world is understandably distracted with the COVID-19 virus, we hope that we cannot lose our Rotary focused goal.

Young Rotarians In Action
Our Young Rotarians continue to meet every other week via a Zoom call.  The silent auction will be postponed, a fundraising event to benefit the Philippines Project, providing food and school supplies to children in that area.
Membership Matters
Even though we are not having formal face to face meetings, we are still Rotarians of Action and Service!   Rose Crispin and Sam Smith (Membership Chair) announced our club Membership Campaign.  A $150.00 gift card to Sugar Beet will be given to the club member who has the most individuals who JOIN OUR CLUB.   Let's not lose sight of the opportunity to share the mission of our organization. We will gather again soon, so let's build for that time.
Family of Rotary
Our Family of Rotary Chair, Diane Stow is available to members during this challenging time.  We want to serve and support one another.  If you have needs or know of a club member in need, please reach out to Diane Stow.  You can email Diane or contact her at 303-775-3338.
Message from our Club President

Good afternoon, fellow Rotarians. These are interesting times, to say the least. We have entered uncharted territory, and a place that reduces our comfort zone. However, in the words of District Governor, Curt Harris, "But we, as Rotarians, with our motto of Service Above Self, are great at seeing the bigger picture and helping make our communities, and the world, a better and safer place."
As First Lutheran Church is closed through May 10, 2020, the Executive Committee decided to reduce quarterly dues payments by $90, to account for the missed meetings in March, April and the first week of May. If the church decides not to open in May, the next quarterly invoice will account for those missed meetings.

The health and welfare of our club members is the primary consideration during these difficult times. If there is something we can do to help you, please let Diane Stow and the Family of Rotary committee know. Diane can be reached via email at diane@dianestow.com.

Stay safe and healthy!
