Nicole Kasemir shared an inspiring moment from her recent trip to the Rotary International Convention in Singapore. Along with her husband, Wolfram, she presented photos from their journey, highlighting their experiences. They had the opportunity to network with Rotarians from around the world, witness performances by Cirque du Soleil dancers, enjoy amazing cultural music, and explore the vast House of Friendship. The convention featured many inspirational keynote speakers, including the new RI President, Stephanie Urchick.  Nicole closed with a club challenge, urging attendance at next year's Rotary Convention in Calgary. 

 

The Longmont Rotary Club asked six club members to share some highlights of their years in civic office, serving on the Longmont City Council and/or as City Mayor. These are a few highlights from their inspiring presentations.   

John Caldwell:
John moved to Longmont in the 8th grade, which he describes as "the best thing that ever happened to me."  He appreciated the many mentors and opportunities for personal growth the community offered. John served four terms on the City Council while raising a family and starting a business. He was the recipient of the Slick Haley Award multiple times. When asked about any regrets during his city council service, he mentioned the Del Camino annexation. “That was a missed opportunity”. 

Darrell humorously reflected on his campaign by saying, “Well, I won the damn election.” He was a strong advocate for water, believing it should pay for itself, a stance that was met with some consternation. Thanks to Button Rock Dam, Longmont is now “water-rich”,  Darrell said, adding that he learned more during his four years on the City Council than his years in college.  He expressed deep gratitude to Longmont.  His biggest regret? Not building a second reservoir.

Tim Waters:
Tim moved to Longmont in 1994, having previously worked in Greeley as Superintendent of Schools. He earned his PhD from Arizona State University. Guided by the motto, “Where can I pay it forward?” Tim served two terms on the City Council. He focused on housing affordability and attainability and is proud of initiating the inclusionary housing ordinance.  He also highlights the council's work on the economic development of the river corridor area.  “It was a challenging time during the pandemic, stifling some work I hoped to see completed”
