Your support of us testing the practicality and functionality of a club Co-Presidency is humbling and gratifying. We are excited about the possibilities in this approach to club leadership and optimistic about the year ahead. There is much we can accomplish together and we are ready to get started in the first of what we anticipate as a two-year term.
Longmont Rotary Club members have many reasons to be proud. We can be proud of more than a century of service to the Longmont community. We can be proud of our contributions to the eradication of polio. We can be proud of both domestic and international service projects leading to comfort, health, and safety for vulnerable populations who need and deserve the best we can deliver. We should be proud of our record of service and acknowledge there is so much more to do.
Anticipating our term as Co-Presidents, on February 25, 2023, we convened interested club members in Rotary’s visioning process. Facilitated by a District 5450 visioning team, the process affirmed the values and commitments we’ve come to expect from Rotary and Rotarians. The process also clarified areas of both need and opportunity.
Building on results of the visioning process, a goal setting team comprised of ten club members met numerous times during March, April, and May to produce three-year goals on which committees will focus and around which budgets will be developed. Because of this work, we head into a new Rotary year with clarity on our priorities which include;
• Growing club membership by nearly 50%, to 150 members by 2025.
• Ambitious community service projects that will be periodically reviewed, evaluated, and adapted to local and/or international conditions.
• Reinvigorated focus and engagement in international initiatives.
• An awards program that acknowledges generations of contributors to the community and to the club.
• A creative and comprehensive plan to market Longmont Rotary in and to the community.
• Reconceptualizing youth programs to reach more aspiring servant leaders.
• Varying club operations in ways that please current members and appeal to new and diverse members.
• Fundraising initiatives that allow greater investments in both service projects and club development.
The Rotary International theme for 2023 – 24 is Create Hope in the World. There might never have been a time when the world needs hope more than it does now. Taking this theme seriously starts by modeling hope for this club, hope for this community, and hope for the club’s leadership. Our aspiration is that Longmont Rotary serves as a beacon of hope locally and internationally. If not us, then who? If not now, then when?

Longmont Rotary 2023 - 2025
Karl Kurtz is the President of the Boulder Rotary Club for Rotary year, 2023-24. He spoke to the Longmont Club about a topic he is quite passionate about, US State Capitals. Karl refers to himself as a "state capital junkie". He loves everything about them, their history, the architecture and design of the buildings, interior and exteriors. Karl worked for the National Conference of State Legislatures (NCSL) for 30+ years, giving him the opportunity to visit and tour many state capitals. He enjoys sharing his knowledge about our US capitals, their stories and his collection of beautiful photos.
