A few weeks ago, we lost a long-time friend and Rotarian, John Collett.
John joined our club as a charter member in 1989.  He was one of those guys who really lived the Rotary motto, “Service above Self”.  It was John who approached Southside Elementary in Elko as well as  Sage and Spring Creek Elementary schools and Spring Creek High School about flags for their gymnasiums.  It was John who brought up the idea of purchasing a tree at the Festival of Lights and donating it to a local family.  John was the guy who was there helping during our Brew Fests in the ‘90’s.  He initiated the “Taste of Elko” at Great Basin College one year.  For several  years, he spearheaded the collection, purchase, and distribution  of food from local grocery stores for families needing staples during the winter months.  John was a “get things done” guy.  John was club president 2002-03.  He was our friend and a wonderful Rotarian.  He is greatly missed.  More information can be found about John at:
The Board of Directors of the Elko Desert Sunrise Rotary Club voted May 13, to send a contribution to the Rotary Foundation in John Collett's honor.
Individuals who would like to contribute to the Foundation in his honor may do so by 1) going to my.rotary.org and making a donation by clicking on DONATE in the upper right, or 2) contacting Jean Sloan (775-388-8822), or 3) by calling the Rotary Foundation (847-866-3000) directly.  Jean suggests choosing the Annual Fund as that was something John favored, but which fund is up to you.
